Child psychology is a branch of psychology which deals with the development of systematic psychological changes along with emotional and mental changes as well. This is a complex subject because every child has different perceptions and character traits which make them different from the others around them. It deals not only with the development of the brain , however, it also reads through the changes that take place when there is a gradual increase in the knowledge base and their development by interaction with the outer world.
Different circumstances bring out different traits of every other child and helps in understanding the kind of treatment and attention which they require. The cognitive development is really interesting in its own way: this refers to problem solving skills, analytical and logical reasoning, comprehension and understanding.
In earlier times, children were considered to be the small version of adults; Jean Piaget assumed that children think differently than adults. There are many factors that play an important role in the development of a child?s brain. Environmental factors such as social relationships, culture and traditions, hereditary factors like the genes and natural behavior and various other influences also bring a sea change in a child?s character which needs to be considered as well.In a broader perspective we need to see various factors in order to keep a watch on the psychological development. First, comes the social and emotional development which refers to the ways in which a child reacts to the statements made by others. Family, friends, teachers and relatives form an integral part of the social context.
Emotional development precisely depends on the rapport shared by the children with their family. Many a times there are incidents which a children remember and when the same action happens again it brings out the same memories back to the their mind putting them in a state of confusion. Similarly there are children who react differently to any past actions which are repeated in front of them.Second, comes the cultural development which also plays an important role in development of a child. The values, traditions and long lasting assumptions make a deep impact on the on the mind of a youngster. Culture depicts what kind of education children receive; how they interact with their parents and the kind of care that the kids are provided with. The third most important factor which plays a deeper role is the socio-economic context. This is a vital area for development: there are children who have better opportunities because their socio-economic conditions are far better than the others. There are families where the socioeconomic conditions are worse and children falling under this group have very less access to any opportunities coming their way; such families have lesser access to healthcare facilities, education and nutritious food.
Child psychology not only deals with various factors related to the development of the brain, however, it also deals with an overall development of a child?s personality. There are numerous factors that are to be considered in order to make parenting not just easier for parents, but it also takes enormous time to understand the most minute reactions and actions of a child, although everything revolves around the context discusses above and their convergence as well.
