Scary Realization- LONG - Adoption.com Forums

My 2.5 year old FS is on a weekend visitation with his mom this weekend until Monday. This weekend, me and AMan have the place to ourselves.

I feel guilty, as I feel relieved. I am sooooo enjoying spending one on one time with Aman. 2 year old is......well a normal 2, almost 3 year old including temper tantrums and struggling to find independence while not being ready quite yet.

It makes activities and fun times a bit limited and I always feel like I am constantly doing time outs. He sucks my 5 year old into getting into trouble with him a lot.

Nothing abnormal, just typical age and "sibling" type relationship.

But this weekend, I have my sweet boy to myself.

Tonight, after having Mommy **** and Aman time, we snuggled and he practiced reading a starter book to me (Splat the Cat Series), then bedtime.

Then I had a scary realization.

I FEEL like his mommy now. Not a babysitter, not a caregiver. Not an adult who happens to love him.

I am IN LOVE with this little guy.

And it terrifies me. Because Biomom is going to get a 6 month extension on her case....going into February. Mom has done everything she is supposed to, makes visits and phone calls. She is just completely mentally ill, and moderate MRDD with little hope of rehabilitation.

However, courts will give her a chance to try. How will they know she is "better" enough to try to parent him. There is little research on MBP, and the research that is out there says there is no effective treatment.

I will be absolutely, to the core, soul-wrenching, devastated if he goes home. Up until now, I have avoided thinking too much about it. I have been busy with work, school and another foster son.

Now that it is going to go back to just me and Aman soon, I can feel my stomach tightening with just the thought of him going home.

I know that I need to take it one day at a time. I logically know that. But how do you tell your heart that???

So scared!!!

Thanks for letting me ramble and pour out my fears etc. No one else I can really share this with. Don't think my family or friends or co-workers would really get it.

Is A VA Loan Your Best Mortgage Option? | REALTOR.com? Blogs

Is A VA Loan Your Best Mortgage Option? photo

By Lauren Ratier

Before signing on the dotted line of their home loan, millions of veterans each year must decide between the VA Home Loan Program and the various other lending options available to them, including conventional loans, FHA loans and USDA loans. Here?s a look at these loan programs side by side to see their various benefits and drawbacks and which group of people is best suited for each option.

VA Loans

For active duty service members and veterans, the VA Home Loan Program offers the chance to purchase a home without a down payment and no private mortgage insurance. Through the program, lenders tend to allow lower creditworthiness ? a score of about 620 or higher ? than conventional lenders.? Although there is a funding fee that varies based on being active duty or part of the Reserves/National Guard, the loans have limits ranging from $417,000 to more than $1 million.

In addition, the interest rates tend to be competitive with or lower than conventional loans. The process for obtaining this type of loan requires a Certificate of Eligibility, finding a lender that offers this type of federally guaranteed loan and remaining in line with certain ongoing occupancy requirements even during repayment.

Ideal For: The majority of veterans and active duty service members who are able to prove eligibility.

Conventional Loans

For the average buyer, conventional loans are the most common route to homeownership. They usually come with a 5 to 20 percent down payment, as well as private mortgage insurance and various closing costs. Additionally, buyers typically must have a credit score of 680 and up to qualify for a loan. These loans lack government guarantees, such as those available in the VA Home Loan Program.

Ideal For: The average borrower who has the credit and cash to secure a loan and back it up with a significant sum for a down payment. Borrower also must be able to afford PMI and various other expenses associated with home loans.

FHA Loans

The Federal Housing Administration is similar to the Veterans Affairs Department in that it guarantees loans for qualified borrowers. However, these loans have a minimum down payment of 3.5 percent, which differs from VA home loans. Credit score requirements are not a part of these loans, meaning lenders are able to finance borrowers with scores ranging around 580. However, these borrowers still must pay an up-front mortgage insurance premium along with annual premiums.

Ideal For: Those who are low- to middle-income who are unable to qualify for no-down payment programs such as the VA Home Loan Program.

USDA Loans.

Just as the FHA and the VA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture maintains its own home loan program as part of its Rural Development Office. This is the only no-down payment loan program other the VA Home Loan Program. These loans are available to lenders with a credit score of at least 620 who are seeking to buy a home located in what the USDA considers a qualified rural area. Borrowers are not required to purchase private mortgage insurance or pay a mortgage insurance premium.

Ideal For: Veterans who live in rural areas who may or may not qualify for the VA Home Loan Program.

For veterans who meet the eligibility requirements of the VA Home Loan Program, it tends to be the best option. But due to its other restrictions and rules such as occupancy requirements and eligibility process borrowers must complete before even being able to seek a loan, prospective lenders should also consider the other options available on the market, including but not limited to those listed above.

Volunteers from Scottsdale Assist Tahoe RCD with Evans Family ...

Peace of Mind Float Spa L.L.C. is Lake Tahoe's premiere Sensory Deprivation (Float Tank) destination. We provide 2 float tanks as well as a Far Infared Sauna and an Aroma Therapy Oxygen Bar to enhance your complete flotation experience. Operated by Karin and Darin Nobriga, long time Tahoe locals. We provide the most relaxing mind and body experience in the Tahoe basin.

We're located at 290 Kingsbury Grade, Stateline, Nevada next to the Goal Post and a quarter mile from the Stateline casinos. We offer local and casino employee discounts and encourage those who haven't floated, to try the most relaxing experience of their lives.
What is Floating?
Floating is a therapeutic treatment that isolates the user from environmental stimulus, greatly reducing stress, and easing the body into a state of equilibrium. Floating is also known as flotation therapy, floating therapy, float therapy, restricted environmental stimulation therapy (or REST), and Epsom salt hydrotherapy. The flotation tank is referred to as an isolation tank, sensory deprivation chamber, float tank, floating tank, and rest tank.

The flotation tank itself is a sensory deprivation pod with 10 inch deep water warmed to 93.5 degrees and enriched with 800 pounds of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate). The tank has an advanced filtration/purification system that operates according to regulations from the State of Nevada.

The space inside is approximately 8 feet long by 4 feet wide. Although some may be wary of feeling claustrophobic the first time they float, the tank door opens freely and you are in complete control. You can come and go as you wish. You can also float with the door open. For those who would like audio stimulation, relaxing music is available.
The experience of floating is unique. Inside the tank you?ll float effortlessly on the surface of 93.5 degree water. Floaters feel a sense of weightlessness. That weightlessness, the temperature of the water, and the dark, quiet space of the tank allow the brain to ease into a theta* brain wave state. This usually happens in the second half hour of a one hour float session. First time floaters should not expect instant results. Generally it takes more than one float to completely ?let go? and fully experience flotation.

Business Critical Applications: Virtualizing SAP?it's a risk not to

There are business-critical applications?and then there?s SAP.? If you?re an IT manager in an SAP-based organization, you know first-hand the importance of this market-leading BCA system to every aspect of your operations.? Many large enterprises cannot run their businesses without SAP?it?s not just critical, it?s indispensable.

Is Virtualizing SAP Risky?

In years past, some IT managers were reluctant to virtualize SAP, and for good reasons.? The story is very different today, in part because of the increased emphasis on IT as a strategic function. A case in point is Hoya Corporation, a Tokyo-based manufacturer of optical products. Needing to respond more quickly to changes in the global marketplace, Hoya decided to become more agile in every aspect of its operations, including its SAP environment. ?Therefore, in November 2010, the company migrated its entire production SAP environment[1] to a private cloud based on VMware vSphere.

Hoya has been reaping the benefits ever since.? SAP operating costs have been cut by 75 percent. ?Peak workloads?for example, running consolidated financial reports?are handled much more effectively, thanks to streamlined provisioning.? The increased flexibility has allow the company to integrate several acquisitions with minimal disruption to ongoing operations. ?And Hoya is leveraging its virtualized SAP environment to add additional capabilities in the near future: enhanced disaster recovery/business continuity and a chargeback system for cost transparency.

Organizations Benefit from Virtualizing SAP

The pressure to ensure high availability is intense for SAP managers?even a few minutes of downtime can unleash a barrage of angry phone calls from frustrated users.? VMware virtualization takes advantage of SAP?s high-availability features to ensure that the software stays running?and the phones stay quiet.

Upgrades are a fact of life for every SAP landscape and they can be complex and time-consuming. Often they take hours or days in a non-virtualized platform?if you have the hardware available. In a virtual environment, new virtual machines can be provisioned in minutes, and then deprovisioned rapidly, recovering the resources. ???

As IT budgets continue to shrink, the imperative to lower operating costs gets more urgent?and virtualization can make a real difference. ?Server consolidation translates directly into lower costs for power, cooling, and space?and boosts the organizations ?green? profile in the bargain.

Timing the Move

Let?s say that you?ve decided to virtualize your SAP environment?now the question is timing.? In the course of helping literally thousands of customers make the transition from physical to virtual VMware has identified some opportune times to move.

A planned SAP upgrade can be a good time.? For example, Mazda took advantage of a planned move to SAP NetWeaver Process Integration to virtualize their entire SAP production environment[2]?and cut in half their capital expenses.

When approaching a hardware refresh, many customers take advantage of the changeover to consider a migration to virtualization at the same time.? Many system integrators know how to integrate the refresh and virtualization projects to minimize disruptions and combine staff training for new hardware and software.

New compliance and security imperatives often require substantial infrastructure changes, which can highlight the inherent inflexibility of the existing platform and persuade top management to invest in infrastructure.? In the wake of a natural or man-made disaster that impacts operations, top executives often order a review of the company?s disaster recovery/business continuity plans, exposing vulnerabilities that can be best addressed with virtualization.

Supreme Court muddles immigrant labor issue

Andrew Innerarity / Reuters

Dennis Ramos chants with fellow protesters at a Miami rally to protest Monday's Supreme Court decision that allows non-federal police officers in Arizona to perform immigration checks.

By Allison Linn

The Supreme Court?s decision on Arizona's immigration law may not do much to ease concerns of employers who rely on migrant workers, especially those in states that have passed similar laws.

The high court?Monday struck down several key parts of the Arizona law, including one making it a crime for an illegal immigrant to work or seek work in the state.

But it upheld a portion allowing police officers stopping someone for another crime to check that person?s immigration status.

That could be enough to keep many immigrant workers away from states that have passed similar laws seeking to crack down on illegal immgration, including Utah, Georgia, Indiana, Alabama and South Carolina.

Proponents argue?such laws are needed?because federal lawmakers have failed to come up with a comprehensive solution to the issue, but the Supreme Court reiterated Monday that for the most part immigration law should be left to the federal government.

While the state laws have drawn popular support, they also have faced serious opposition?from some businesses, including farm interests, that?depend on?migrant workers to do?work that citizens and legal residents?either can?t or won?t.

?We don?t support people that are here illegally having a pathway to citizenship, but we?ve got to have somebody to harvest our crops,? said Charles Hall, executive director of the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. ?We don?t have that workforce.?

Hall and others say the fear of immigration checks was?enough to scare some workers away from?states that imposed the tougher laws. He said Monday that it wasn't yet clear how the Supreme Court ruling will affect Georgia's law --?or the rumor mill blamed for keeping many foreign-born workers out of Georgia.

As employers wait for more legal guidance, some expect that undocumented workers will take a wait-and-see attitude.

"It's not going to open the floodgates in terms of workers leaving?or coming," said Michael Fix, senior vice president with the Migration Policy Institute, which has been following the issue closely.

Experts say that despite the nation?s high?unemployment rate, it is hard to find native-born workers to do the difficult, unpleasant, low-wage jobs typically filled by undocumented workers.

?The shortages that these laws create are real,? Judy Gans, program manager for immigration policy at the University of Arizona, said ahead of the ruling. ?The wages would have to go up a lot for there to be an adequate supply of native-born workers.?

In 2011, crops?were left rotting in Georgia?fields when?workers who?normally migrate through the state bypassed it because of rumors of a crackdown driven by the state's new law.

Hall?said efforts to recruit domestic workers?largely failed, as?native-born workers had neither the skill nor?endurance for the?job.

This year, he said Georgia farmers were able to recruit enough workers after a judge blocked two sections of the state law.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has said it would rule on the Georgia law after hearing the Supreme Court opinion on the Arizona law, so it?s not clear what the effect will be on the next?harvest season in?four or five months.

In Alabama, farmers have complained of a similar problem. An analysis by Samuel Addy, a research economist and director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Alabama, found that the loss of these types of workers would likely hurt the state?s economy more than it would help it.

?The potential for economic growth is reduced somewhat,? he said.

In other states, the backlash from business, the improving economy and the fear of legal challenges has already dampened enthusiasm for such laws. In 2011, 30 states considered but didn?t pass bills that would crack down on immigration, according to?data from the National Conference of State Legislatures. In 2012, just five states introduced such bills, and none have passed yet.

?I think the heat?s off,? said Frank Bean, director of the Center on Research, Immigration, Population and Public Policy at the University of California at Irvine.

The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that about 11.2 million unauthorized immigrants were living in the United States as of 2010, down from a high of about 12 million a few years ago.? About 8 million were thought to be in the workforce.

Arizona has been at the forefront of the effort to curb illegal immigration through state laws. Business leaders there say that?s one reason why they actually may be less affected by the Supreme Court decision than business owners in other states.

For one thing, they have been responding to immigration crackdowns since 2007, when Arizona lawmakers passed a law that required many employers to use the federal E-Verify system to check whether employees had the required paperwork to work in this country legally.

Magnus Lofstrum, a public policy fellow with the Public Policy Institute of California, said his research found that as a result of that earlier law, the working-age unauthorized immigrant population fell by about 17 percent, or roughly 90,000 people, between 2008 and 2009.

In addition, he said, the number of suspected unauthorized immigrants who began working as contractors rose by about 25,000 between 2007 and 2009. Under the law, contractors are not subjected to the screening.

The shift toward more contract work could mean lower tax revenues, he said, because informal workers may be less likely to file taxes.

?It?s an unintended consequence, and it?s not a desired one, and particularly in these tight fiscal time,? Lofstrum said.

Other states that have passed immigration laws also have an E-Verify component, although they are not necessarily as strict as Arizona's. Lofstrum said Monday those provisions, which won't be affected by Monday's high?court?ruling, also could make it tough for employers to find workers.

Another reason Arizona businesses could be less affected is because the industry that once relied heavily on undocumented labor, construction, has been in the doldrums for years since the spectacular housing bust. Although there are signs the housing market in Arizona is improving, that downturn still means there?s less need for those workers.

Still, the law may have had other effects.

A 2010 report from the liberal-leaning Center for American Progress estimated that the tourism industry lost as much as $141 million because of people opted not to book conferences and other events there in the wake of the bill being passed.

The state?s major business organizations haven?t taken a formal position for or against the most recent immigration law.

Garrick Taylor, spokesman for the Arizona Chamber of Business and Industry, said they think federal lawmakers need to craft a nationwide solution to the immigration issue, while the Chamber is more focused on healing the state?s economy.

?Our push is that the legislature here at the state level continue to focus on economic recovery and job creation,? he said.

Prosecutors: Celeb hacker should get prison

(AP) ? Federal prosecutors are recommending a nearly six-year prison sentence for a Florida man who has pleaded guilty to hacking into email accounts belonging to Christina Aguilera, Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson.

Court documents filed earlier this week in California said 35-year-old Christopher Chaney also should pay more than $150,000 in restitution, including about $66,000 to Johansson. Chaney is scheduled to be sentenced July 23.

Chaney pleaded guilty to nine counts in March and was arrested last year as part of a yearlong investigation dubbed "Operation Hackerazzi."

Prosecutors said Chaney illegally accessed the email accounts of more than 50 people in the entertainment industry.

Nude photos Johansson had taken of herself were later posted on the Internet. "The Avengers" star said the photos were meant for Ryan Reynolds, now her ex-husband.

(AP) ? Fighter jets thunder above the English countryside. Missiles stand ready. And Big Brother is watching like never before.

The London Olympics are no ordinary games. Not since World War II have Britain and the United States teamed up for such a massive security operation on British soil.

Hundreds of American intelligence, security and law enforcement officials are flying across the Atlantic for the games that begin July 27. Some will even be embedded with their British counterparts, sharing critical intelligence and troubleshooting potential risks. Dozens of Interpol officers will also be deployed.

The unique collaboration is rooted in common threats the partners have faced since the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the U.S. and Britain's own deadly suicide bombings in 2005.

Britain was America's closest ally in Afghanistan and Iraq, making it a prime target of Islamic terror groups. And dozens of recent terror plots, including the 2006 plot to blow up nearly a dozen trans-Atlantic airliners, have been hatched within Britain's sizeable Muslim population, more than 1 million of whom have ties to Pakistan.

Although other Olympics have taken place since 9/11 ? Salt Lake City, Athens, Turin, Beijing and Vancouver ? London poses a different breed of security challenge.

"I'm confident that there is more than adequate security here for these games," Louis Susman, the U.S. Ambassador to the U.K., told The Associated Press. "That said, we live in a tumultuous world, whether that be in New York or London."

Intelligence officials say there has been an expected increase in chatter among extremist groups but there are still no specific or credible threats to the London games. The terror level is labeled substantial, a notch below severe and what it has been for much of the past decade. A substantial threat level indicates that an attack is a strong possibility.

"There is a perception in some quarters that the terrorist threat to this country has evaporated," said Jonathan Evans, head of Britain's domestic spy agency of MI5. "Bin Laden is dead, al-Qaida's senior leadership in Pakistan is under serious pressure and there hasn't been a major terror attack here for seven years. (But) in back rooms and in cars and on the streets of this country, there is no shortage of individuals talking about wanting to mount terrorist attacks here."

The potential threats to the London games are broad and diverse ? a lone wolf attacker such as Norway's Anders Behring Breivik who confessed to killing 77 people; a possible non-Asian Muslim convert who could slip by security with a European passport; a coordinated strike like the Sept. 11 terror attacks or a debilitating cyber-attack.

Although al-Qaida has been weakened by targeted U.S. strikes, its affiliates in places like Somalia and Yemen have stepped up their activity and increased their capabilities. They've even been working on bombs that can go undetected in airport scans.

British security officials fear that dozens of nationals who went to train in Somalia and elsewhere could eventually return.

"Terrorist problems have a long tail," said Evans. "They very rarely just stop."

Up to 1 million visitors are expected for the games, putting added strain on border security agents at airports like London's Heathrow, which has been criticized for its long lines and lack of staff to screen those arriving from other countries.

On site, some 300,000 people are expected to flow into Olympic Park in east London each day during peak times.

One of the key functions for Interpol, the international police organization, will be to speed intelligence data sharing between countries so threats can be deterred. U.K. officials scan Interpol data 130 million times per year, Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble told the AP during an exclusive interview at the agency's Lyon headquarters.

"The truth is, and we know this from Norway, that you can't identify one ethnic group and say that's the ethnic group that should only concern us," Noble said. "But this Olympics ? from all that I know and based on all the information that Interpol has ? should be a safe Olympics."

Shared intelligence, better technology and boosted resources have allowed security officials to crack organized plots before they happen but the possibility of a self-starter extremist who operates below the radar remains one of the biggest fears.

In the case of Breivik, there were few warning signals that the self-styled anti-Muslim fanatic was about to kill 77 people last summer. The same essentially was true for Mohamed Merah, a Frenchman of Algerian descent who in March killed three paratroopers, a rabbi and three Jewish school children in southwest France.

Security officials say unless people are already known to authorities, they can go virtually undetected as they plan atrocities.

The overall security numbers are staggering. The games will be protected by some 12,000 police officers during peak times and 23,700 security staff ? a number that includes some 13,500 troops on standby, which is more than the 9,500 British troops currently in Afghanistan. A no-fly zone will also be established over Olympic venues from July 14 to August 15.

More than 100,000 people have applied for jobs at Olympics venues, being vetted for employment history and possible criminal backgrounds. The more rigorous checks are done by the government for accreditation to get into the games, according to Ian Horseman Sewell with G4S, a global company providing most of the training and security staff for the Olympics.

Still, Sewell admits London is different than past games.

"London is a proven terrorist target and it is the first time the summer Olympics have been operated in a post 7/7 environment in a place that isn't a totalitarian state," Sewell said, referring to the 2005 suicide bombings in London and the 2008 Beijing games. "From a security perspective, London is breaking new ground."

G4S will also help secure venues outside of the park and protect athletes.

Some specific teams from places like Belarus, Belgium, New Zealand and Vietnam will be training in northern France to keep costs down ? a move that prompted a joint Franco-British security exercise earlier this year.

Protecting athletes has been a concern since a terror attack at the 1972 Olympics in Munich killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches.

"Israeli athletes will be staying away from the others in a more secluded area and with more security," a senior Israeli intelligence official told the AP, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of his job. "But a repetition of what happened in Munich is considered unlikely because Israel is ready and also because it isn't the kind of attack Palestinians would want now."

Technology has also advanced from past games.

Special Israeli surveillance technology has been rolled out for the Olympics across Britain, a country already known for its 4 million closed-circuit television cameras. Even more cameras have been installed at the Olympic Park.

Advanced facial and image recognition software will be used to identify suspects and connect multiple crime scenes. Cameras will be used to capture suspicious behavior. And special drones will be used for crowd surveillance, according to a salesman at an Israeli company who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.

And remember the movie "Speed" where a bomb would allegedly go off if a bus went slower than 50 mph (80 kph)? Hundreds of public transport vehicles and VIP buses being used in the London games have already been equipped so authorities can tell if a driver is acting erratically ? something that might happen in a hijacking.

Authorities will also be able to stop a vehicle remotely or keep it going at a certain speed ? technology that could be useful if a terrorist were carrying explosives and threatening to crash a bus full of athletes into a crowded venue.

The British military has already made headlines with the weapons it will have available ? surface-to-air missiles, RAF Typhoon combat aircraft and an aircraft carrier docked on the Thames, the river that cuts across London close to several Olympic sites.

Security officials had worried that Irish dissidents could target the games, but those fears have dissipated.

Despite the U.S.-U.K. collaboration, there will still be differences in how the London Olympics is policed. Most of the security personnel will be unarmed ? a striking difference to operations in the United States.

Adding to security issues, leaders from around the world will want to visit during the Olympics. The American delegation will be led by first lady Michelle Obama while President Barack Obama focuses on his re-election campaign.

"I've not heard any American who has said they were concerned about security here," said Susman, the ambassador. "London has made an effort to showcase London for the world and I think it's going to be terrific."
